Japanese Hanging Scroll Repro Printed Taizo-kai Mandala 

Ryokai Man-dalas are the central devotional images of the Esoteric sects of Buddhism, namely the Taizokai, or Womb World Mandala based on the Dainichikyo sutra and it is associated with ultimate principle.

 The Taizōkai Mandala sections:

Twelve (12) Courts of Japan's Taizokai Mandala (Womb World, Matrix Realm)spacerThe deities appear in 12 sections or courts, starting from the center and expanding outward. See above diagram of 12 courts.

  1. Chūdai Hachiyō-in (Eight Petal Court). Among the deities here, Monju appears holding a sutra in right hand and a lotus surmounted with a five-pronged vajra in left hand.Miroku appears holding a lotus surmounted with a vase in right hand and displaying the mudra for bestowing fearlessness in left hand.
  2. Henchi-in 遍知院
  3. Jimyō-in 持明院. Central figure is often the six-armed Hanna Bosatsu clad in armour. 
  4. Rengebu-in 蓮華部院 (Lotus Court); also known as the Kannon-in 観音院. 
  5. Kongōshu-in 金剛手院
  6. Shaka-in 釈迦院 (Court of Shaka Nyorai, the Historical Buddha. The Eight Butchō appear here, as does Kokuzo Bosatsu, who is shown to right of Shaka holding a fly whisk in right hand and a green gem atop a lotus in left.
  7. Kokūzō-in 虚空蔵院 (Court of Kokuzo Bosatsu). Kokūzō is central figure, often shown wearing a "five-wisdom gemmed diadem," holding raised sword in right hand, and a lotus surmounted with a jewel in left. 
  8. Monju-in 文殊院 (Court of Monju Bosatsu). Monju typically shown holding a lotus surmounted with a three-pronged vajra in left hand. Fugen appears next to Monju; Gakkō appears here too, as do others.
  9. Soshitsuji-in or Soshitchi-in 蘇悉地院
  10. Jizō-in 地蔵院 (Court of Jizo Bosatsu)
  11. Jogaishō-in 除蓋障院. Nikkō appears here, as do others.
  12. Gekongōbu-in 外金剛部院. Outer Section. Often populated by the Twelve Heavenly Deities (Jūniten 十二天), the deities of the 28lunar masions and other celestial divinities.
